"Η Hollow Airport Museum Εικαστική Κολεκτίβα αποτελεί δίκτυο Κοινωνικής Αλληλέγγυας και Συνεργατικής Οικονομίας στην Αθήνα. The first house to House Domestic Biennial ...Mr. President, you can interact now with art and artists, having immediate access to their projects, thoughts and ideas, while sitting comfy in your office...

Questioning the revolutionary role of art and its power to affect sociopolitical changes the White House Biennial (WHB) opens artists’ access to the White House!!!"

"The project “Hollow Airport Museion”, which took place  in the abandoned International airport of Lefkosia in Cyprus, is the result of Nicos Charalambidis’ artistic explorations. Nicos Charalambidis is considered to be one of Greece’s most important international contemporary artists. With this project he is reconstructing the abandoned space by creating walls, tiles, rugs, doors, and moving platforms, accentuating his nomadic style.

The first part of the exhibition “Black Little Curly Hair” presented a great array of international artists, whose work is highly political. The artists were part of this Museum’s first team of professors, that refuse to collect and exhibit works of art, bringing the definition of Museum back to its ancient Greek dimension, accentuating the workshop style of a typical Cypriot Fine Art School, as well as that of the surrounding Middle East.

The ‘Dead Zone’ that divides Cyprus in two, was a regular place of action for the artist from the beginning of the 80’s. The tension of the area, and the life changing experiences he went through while serving his military stint, as a seventeen-year-old soldier, formed the political frame of his work from early on. He combines the use of modern electronic multimedia, and classical art forms with traditional outfits and folkloric customs.

These interactive  platforms for activism, which he facilitates, are alternative forms of protest, that result experimentally through his own reactions to personal experiences but later become academic forms of expression for many artists.

Charalambidis himself mentions that the deep rooted activism and radical style of his interventions in the Green Line, resulted in risky performances, where curators played the role of mercenary and the artists were the invited guests, conducting international affair type negotiations.

Cyprus’ Ministry of Culture continues to receive dozens of proposals for similar interventions in the area…"
